Guide

Update (23APR2024): Removed Mountaineer (Sadly), found the deck was quite expensive, especially as I climb PvP. Worgen provided a great answer to many ranged threats. S.A.F.E. Pilot perk changed due to update. The split push option is still viable with Footmen or Tauren and Tirion Support.

I have been wanting to make the Mountaineer work for so long.

The current (28 JAN 2024) map rotation has forced a more balanced approach with builds since each map is played quite differently. This forces a Meta that utilizes high efficiency minis. Some examples would be: Harpies, Prowler, and the Huntress.

MINIS:
So I figured some high health minis would make great picks to lean into, one such being is the Mountaineer!
Now the mountaineer has some drawbacks, namely the speed (both in movement / attack) and the high cost. The benefit being that its basically the same as the Footmen with an added ranged bonus. This allows for Tirion to support either the footmen OR the Mountaineer for a strong split push! Remember to provide your opponent with dilemmas not problems.

Footmen will almost always need to be supported by either the Pyromancer OR Tirion in order to have a good chance against counter summons. This seems to be a pretty common pairing in the PvP meta right now. This build give you choices: If your footmen get counter summoned and the Pyromancer nor the Griffon Rider can help, then change your lane and send out the Tauren, or Mountaineer with Tirion.

Use the S.A.F.E. Pilot as gold control when needed. If you have developed control over gold, the the S.A.F.E. Pilot is great for trading.

The Tauren is generally a good brawler / tank allowing you to buy time or pressure opposing lanes.

The Griffin Rider is primarily here to fight against Tanks that are choking the lanes and slowing the advance.

This build will likely struggle the most against Rend decks given the air superiority and elemental damage which shews through armor. I recommend using the Tauren to distract and turn Rend around allowing for the Griffin Rider / Pyromancer to freely attack from behind.

COUNTERS:
The build creator thinks this deck will struggle with the following models:
Cairne, Rend, Drakkisath Skeleton Party, Core Hounds, Bandits, Whelp Eggs, and opposing Footmen.

Cairne, Drakkisath, Core Hounds, and Footmen will require the Pyromancer / Griffin Rider to chip away at them and utilizing the S.A.F.E. Pilot as additional damage hopefully allowing for a decent trade. I would recommend fighting these models under your own towers for the additional fire support.

Skeleton Party and Whelp Eggs can be fought off using Pyromancer. If the opposing deck is utilizing these, I recommend Keeping the Pyromancer in your pocket until needed.

Bandits are typically used for gold, simply drop your S.A.F.E. Pilot on them and take the gold for yourself.

Remember, there is no perfect build and you will lose some games, hopefully you win more than lose. Try to learn from each game and I'm certain you will find ways to improve upon this deck or come up with strategies I have not. Best of luck!
